Vesper offers a competitive program, and coaching for our masters athletes who are looking to compete at local Philadelphia races, Diamond State Masters Regatta, USRowing Masters Nationals Championships, Head of the Charles Regatta, and Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.
The Vesper Boat Club masters team is open to any member of Vesper looking to train with a group and do some races. There are masters of all ages that mix into the workouts. The group primarily focuses on sculling boats of all sizes with the occasional sweep boat joining in here or there. Coaching sessions are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, as well as a third practice during the weekend (times vary). This program is geared towards preparing masters to be race-ready, while also helping athletes to improve their rowing technique.
The Vesper Masters team is a unique program in the world of masters rowing: the group is informal, structured workouts at group practices are available, and athletes are invited to come when they can, without obligation. Athletes just simply show up at practices—there’s no need to sign up in advance, test you way in to the program, etc. The weekday workouts are typically challenging sessions, geared towards the fastest and fittest in the group.
The group is also very social and participates in the occasional coffee/breakfast, birthday celebrations, and beers after races, at the Club.
